Suzuki Midnight Run 2026 took place in Laugardalur this evening. Around 2,500 runners set off from Engjavegur and finished at the Washing Pools (Þvottalaugarnar) in Laugardalur. Participants competed in three distances: the half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km. The weather alternated between sunshine and showers throughout the evening, but the sun made an appearance when it mattered most. Despite the changing conditions, Laugardalur was at its beautiful best and warmly welcomed the tired but happy runners.
Competitors from 66 countries
Of the more than 2,500 registered participants, runners came from 66 different countries. The largest international contingents were from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. More than half of all registered participants were women (1,298). There were 1,068 men and 8 non-binary participants registered.
Arnar Pétursson was the fastest man in the half marathon, finishing in 1:10:23, improving his winning time from last year by just over a minute. He also won the men's half marathon in 2025.
In the women's half marathon, Fanny Josefine Ahlfors of Sweden claimed victory in 1:23:07. Notably, Fanny also served as a special ambassador for the event.
In the 10 km race, Íris Anna Skúladóttir was the fastest woman, finishing in 36:44. She improved her winning time from last year by nearly two minutes, having also won the women's 10 km in 2025. Stefán Kári Smárason won the men's 10 km in 33:50, successfully defending his title from last year.
In the 5 km race, Sindri Dagur Birnisson was the fastest man, finishing in 16:29, while Fanney Þorbjörg Guðmundsdóttir was the fastest woman with a time of 18:30.
A non-binary category was offered in all three race distances, but there were not enough entrants for competition.
Pool party after the race
After crossing the finish line, the tired but cheerful participants enjoyed refreshments before heading to a pool party at Laugardalslaug.
